Torso — Ceramic Sculpture

The image of the torso, which first appeared in a drawing Shahar made in adolescence, continues to develop in the ceramic sculptures as a three-dimensional body. The transition into sculpture allows the image to move from the page into space, transforming it from a flat drawing into a physical object that can be encountered from different angles.

In the ceramic sculptures, the torso continues to carry the tension between body and vessel, and between figure and object. Through ceramics, sgraffito, and drawing on the surface of the material, the sculptural works are created in dialogue with the drawn torso, continuing to explore ideas of femininity, containment, and nature, between line and material, subtraction and addition, drawing and sculpture.
